The villa consists of 3 cadastral farm lands: one of 8,425 m\u00b2, one of 5,403 m\u00b2 and another of 1,059 m\u00b2. On the plot there are 218 olive trees and a vineyard with 400 vines with drip system irrigation. There are 2 water reservoirs with a capacity of 60,000 liters.

Wikipedia: Relleu<\/b>\u00a0(Valencian:\u00a0<\/small>[re\u02c8\u028eew]<\/a><\/span>,<\/small>\u00a0Spanish:\u00a0<\/small>[re\u02c8\u028eew]<\/a><\/span>) is a\u00a0municipality<\/a>\u00a0in the\u00a0comarca<\/a><\/i>\u00a0of\u00a0Marina Baixa<\/a>,\u00a0Alicante<\/a>,\u00a0Valencia<\/a>, Spain.<\/p>\n

Relleu is set in the middle of a valley surrounded by mountains like the\u00a0Cabe\u00e7\u00f3 d’Or<\/a><\/i>\u00a0(1,209 m), the\u00a0Serra de la Grana<\/i>\u00a0(1,095 m) and the\u00a0Serra de l’Aguilar<\/i>\u00a0(895 m). The best way to access Relleu is coming from\u00a0Villajoyosa\/La Vila Joiosa<\/a>, take the road that connects with Orxeta-Sella (CV-770). From Alicante, you can also access this location through the AP-7 or N-332 then take the CV-775 up from\u00a0El Campello<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Relleu borders the municipalities of\u00a0Aig\u00fces<\/a>,\u00a0Alicante<\/a>,\u00a0Busot<\/a>,\u00a0Jijona\/Xixona<\/a>,\u00a0Orxeta<\/a>,\u00a0Pen\u00e0guila<\/a>,\u00a0Sella<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Torremanzanas<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The population went from 3,342 registered inhabitants in 1900 to 717 in 1991 due to the\u00a0migration<\/a>\u00a0of its inhabitants. In recent years Relleu has become an attractive destination for (mainly) British citizens, which has reversed the depopulation, so that in 2011 it had 1,338 inhabitants of which 42.1% were of foreign nationality, however, by 2018 the figure had fallen to 38.3%.<\/sup><\/p>\n

A visitor to Relleu is likely to encounter two languages being used for notices around the town and in the entrance to the town hall; these are Valencian and\u00a0English<\/a>. In addition, the town hall employs a native English speaker to liaise with foreigners.<\/p>\n

Relleu has an interesting\u00a0Roman<\/a>\u00a0past. It was brought into focus by Doctor Alejandro Sendra, who found, on his property, the burial stone of \u2018Paccius\u2019 that indicated Roman occupation well inside the\u00a0Imperium<\/a>. More findings from recent works in the town, although not yet closely studied, will shed more light on the past of the town, which, during the Roman period, was probably within the administration of the important nearby Roman town of Villajoyosa\/La Vila Joiosa.<\/p>\n

The history of Relleu precedes the Romans by at least four centuries as there was an\u00a0Iberian<\/a>\u00a0settlement within the Parish boundaries a little distance from the town on the highest point of the\u00a0Penya-roja<\/i>\u00a0(Spanish\u00a0Pe\u00f1arroja<\/i>). As detailed in the book \u2018Contestina Ib\u00e9rica\u2019 by E. Llobregat.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately the site has been looted but there still remain half meter thick walls and a significant quantity of Iberian\u00a0amphora<\/a>\u00a0fragments, small pieces of Iberian ceramic and over the hillside,\u00a0slag<\/a>\u00a0from iron working.<\/p>\n

This material, together with other artefacts deposited in the local museum, with similar characteristics to those found in the settlement give the impression of permanent occupation more or less through the 2nd and 1st centuries BC when Romans controlled the area.<\/p>\n

Relleu (which means “relief” in\u00a0Valencian<\/a>) owes its name to the rugged terrain that makes up the municipality and is overlooked by the ruins of an 11th-century castle built by the\u00a0Muslim<\/a>\u00a0population. The town consisted of 70 houses linked with\u00a0Cocentaina<\/a>. After the conquest of the region by the troops of\u00a0James I of Aragon<\/a>\u00a0Relleu would become the property of Bernat de Sarri\u00e0 depending ecclesiastically on\u00a0Finestrat<\/a>\u00a0parish until 1535.<\/p>\n

In the late 16th century the property was under the\u00a0Duke of Osuna<\/a>\u00a0and years later, the 1609\u00a0decree<\/a>\u00a0by\u00a0Philip III<\/a>\u00a0expelling the\u00a0Moors<\/a>\u00a0dramatically affected the town’s population, who fled to the mountains and then, together with the Moors of Finestrat and Sella, rose up against Alicante. Only 15\u00a0Christian<\/a>\u00a0families remained.<\/p>\n

The town became one of the most populous in the area at the beginning of the 20th century, having 3,342 inhabitants. This was due to irrigation of the\u00a0horta<\/a><\/i>\u00a0by the Amadorio River. The ruins of the castle are protected by the Law on Spanish Historical Heritage.<\/p>\n
